Track

Individual

Educational steps for the individual’s tax year — contract pilot, W-2 employee, resident in transition, or American abroad. The firm reviews your case.

  1. 01

    Every month

Keep pay stubs, per diem records, and work-expense receipts in a folder per month.

  2. 02

    1099 contract

Use a bank account just for contract income. Note flight-related expenses (training, exams, equipment).

  3. 03

    Days in each country

Log days in the US and outside. This helps the professional evaluate residence (dual-status, First-Year Choice).

  4. 04

    Foreign accounts

Keep a list of non-US accounts and peak balances, to evaluate FBAR and Form 1116 calmly.

  5. 05

    Estimates

If you receive 1099 with no withholding, plan quarterly estimates (1040-ES) with the firm.

  6. 06

    Year end

In January and February, send W-2, 1099, 1098, and statements through the secure portal (Drake Tax Portal).
