Dual-status / first-year US resident
For first-year residents, dual-status years, and anyone weighing IRC 7701(b) First-Year Choice. BonaTax is the firm’s app for this slice; this portal only organizes the paperwork.
What to send (through the Drake Tax Portal)
- US W-2 and 1099 forms, if any.
- Proof of non-US income in the same calendar year.
- A presence calendar (days in the US and outside) so the professional can evaluate residence.
- A list of non-US accounts and peak balances, to evaluate FBAR and Form 1116.
- Proof of foreign tax paid, if a credit may apply.
What to keep
- A day-count log by country — kept through the year, not only in April.
- A calm list of foreign accounts (never send passwords).
- Visa stamps and pairing records that help rebuild the day count.
- Notes on First-Year Choice: the election is technical, and the firm reviews it.
